Stanage

Managed to utilise the bit of sunshine we had today, and went for a wander along Stanage Edge.

Usually when I do Stanage, I park at Redmires and walk past Stanage Pole, but today I parked at Upper Burbage Bridge and started from the other end.

One of the things I've always planned to do, but never got round to, is to find Robin Hood's Cave. It's actually not that difficult...and is far smaller than I'd imagined. Still, it's one more thing I can cross off the list.

Would like to get out for a long walk tomorrow, as I'm off work, but the forecast doesn't look good. :-(

Indoor Mountain

Well, it's not quite a ski resort, but at this time of year in the UK, Castleford Xscape is the next best thing.

snowHeads (with a bit of help from Ellis Brigham) had organised a ski test, so I went along to road test potential purchases.

It's hard to compare skiing on a short artificial slope with the real thing, but my favourites (by a long way) were Head's "Fast Thang". I was reluctant to try them, having had bad experiences with womens skis, but these were great. They're slalom skis, so are great for doing short radius turns, and the edge hold was amazing. I'm not convinced that I'd buy them, because I'm looking for something more "all purpose", but I'll definitely consider trying the other skis in the Head range.

I really wanted to try the new Rossignal B2s, but unfortunately they didn't have and Rossi skis there.

As ever, the best part of the day was meeting up with other snowHeads...some of whom I've now met on quite a few occasions. Biggest surprise (good one!) was u brain, who'd travelled up from London for the day. I really didn't know that people down there knew we existed ;-)
